Christmas Letter 2006

--> click here for German Version

For those of you who know us: This is our electronic Christmas Letter for 2006

As you will see, we are doing well; 2006 has been relatively quiet with not too many surprises. We still enjoy family life and living in Immenstaad.
It´s a pitty that up to now only my American friend Harvey and myself are doing this kind of Christmas Letter of the 21st century. But I still appreciate getting Xmas letters in last century´s format by email or snailmail. . . that´s still better than getting no live sign at all from old friends.

For Ulrike there have not been many changes. She is still employed at the German Red Cross and cares for  old persons in Immenstaad who need help. Here is a picture of her during our vacation - like always in Cesenatico/Italy.

In 2006 I fulfilled myself an old dream of many years: Octoberfest in traditional bavarian outfit!

The year 2006 continued just like 2005 with medical treatment. Today - nearly 2 years after the heavy skiing accident I have to realize that some small souvenirs of the accident will always remain. However, I am still skiing and mountainbiking a lot - I cannot change some habits I like . . . .

I am still with the same company EADS; due to a reorganization beginning of 2006 I got myself a new job and experienced a couple of new interesting things. If you take the time to look at my Travel Pages you know what I mean. (Photo taken in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia).

I am looking nearly authentic in the original Saudi outfit ?

Our "kids" are doing well.

_

Our son Daniel successfully tested the stability of his "repaired" cruciate legaments in October during the Munich Marathon. He actually finished the Marathon, but does not allow me to mention his time. We all lknow he is much faster in swimming  . . .

Daniel prepares for the next phase in his life and returned back to college. At present he is converting his German Diploma into an international Masters Degree. He also started his doctorate at the  German Federal Armed Forces University in Hamburg.

Isabel still works in the Immenstaad Tourist Center at  the local administration.

2007 will bring major changes for all of us; however Daniel and Isabel are the key persons for that change. More info will follow in February 2007 . . . .

After Miriam had "broken the tents off" in Stuttgart in 2005 in order to move to Martin, they are living together in Markdorf (only approx.. 5 miles away from Immenstaad). It is marvelous that she is now again in our proximity after 8 years of living in Stuttgart.
She still has much fun and commitment in her occupation with the support of families in social difficulties.

Not many news from our youngest son Christian. he is still enjoying the philosophy studies in Tübingen so much that he will  probably stay in Tübingen forever  . . .

The year 2006 at the Lake (Immenstaad):

With these photos we let you know, why we are feeling so well here; here is the view from our local hill "Hohberg" towards Immenstaad, lake and the Swiss mountains. More pictures you can find under the main menue "Immenstaad".

Beginning of the year the water level of the lake fell to almost an all time record.

Carneval in Immenstaad.

We had some 20 inches of snow in March.

But finally spring arrived . . . .

In June/July we enjoyed the soccer world championship in Germany, either in our local pub . . .

Timmi´s or . . .

directly in a stadium. We will always keep this great event in our memories. Unfortunatelly our team was kicked out by the Italiens  . . .

.

Bregenz open air Opera Festival on the Lake: This year they played the Troubadour.

With a visit of the beautiful Stuttgart Christmas Fair I would like to complete this year´s Christmas Letter. I hope you enjoyed the pictures.

Merry Christmas, Best wishes  for 2007 and Greetings from Germany

Ulrike, Bernhard "Bernie", Daniel plus Isabel , Miriam plus Martin and Christian
